Monofil plastics fed to the toothed wheel is circled round by a guide or tube so that the strand running lengthways along the fastener is twisted round the monofil and so inserts it in the turns formed on the wheel. At the point where the thread guide is outside the row of teeth on the wheel, and the wheel is rotated the guide tube is led through under the wheel. Once the monofil part forming the lower leg of the link has been placed in position and the thread guide has changed over, the guide tube is then moved through over the strand.
