Fluid is sedimented. The turbid material is deposited in two or more clarifying stages, one above the other in parallel or in series. Pref. waste water is purified in each stage by sedimentation and/or the sedimented sludge is aerated in the stage and regenerated to recovered sludge, or is stabilised and/or biologically active P cpds. are removed by addition of chemicals in one stage.
