<p>The split moulds of a pressure or injection moulding machine for metal or plastic are each mounted on a platen. The upper platen is mounted rigidly on vertical pillars attached to a base plate, whilst the lower plate slides on these pillars and is vertically displaceable a two piston cylinder arrangement providing the necessary motive force. A load cell is fitted to the top of the base plate for generating the closing pressure for the moulds. Between this and the movable platen is positioned a spacer piece which bridges the gap between the bottom face of the movable platen and the load cell during the moulding cycle. After moulding, the distance piece can be slid sideways away from the area between the pillars to permit downwards movement of the lower platen. For this to be possible the distance piece is constructed as a slide horizontal rods being provided at the bottom face of the movable platen and a bracket at its side for supporting the rods beyond the platen. A cylinder is attached to the brackets for effecting the movement. The arrangement reduces the height of the moulding assembly.</p> |
