Cpds. such as CF2Cl-CF2Cl from CF2Cl-CFCl2, are prepd. by gaseous phase dismutation at 360-500 degrees C., using a catalyst comprising aluminium fluoride and 0.1-5% Fe, 0.05-8.5% Cr and up to 5% Ni, in the form of their halides, pref. fluorides, or oxides or oxy-halides. Catalyst is prepd. by adding the Fe, Cr and Ni cpds. to the aluminium fluoride, heating to 300-550 degrees C. in nitrogen or air then fluorinating the product in HF at 200-500 degrees C.
