PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-dimensional image pickup device that can execute distance data calculation with higher precision on the basis of a pattern image photographed by a plurality of cameras. SOLUTION: A light emitting element and a light receiving element are formed on a semiconductor chip adjacent to each other, the light emitting element on the semiconductor chip projects a pattern for measuring a three- dimensional shape and the light receiving element on the chip picks up the image of the pattern on the optical axis. When the field angle of a projector and the field angle of a camera are coincident within the precision of a pixel size and even when there exists forward/backward discontinuity in the measurement object, a video image of a shade causing mis-recognition as a code is not caused in the image photographed by the camera. Thus, the re-coding accuracy of the three-dimensional image pickup device adopting a re-coding method can be enhanced.
