1505918 HF removal PENNWALT CORP 22 Oct 1975 [21 March 1975] 43416/75 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C2 and B1] HF is removed from anhydrous gas mixtures, containing at least one other gas which is inert to alkaline earth metal fluorides, by contacting with anhydrous calcium or barium fluoride under anhydrous conditions; the gas mixture contains up to 20 wt. per cent of HF and the fluoride is prepared, preferably in situ, by the fluorination of particles of the corresponding chloride under anhydrous conditions. The particles preferably have a particle size range of 0À025 to 0À375 inch and the contacting process is preferably carried out at 60‹ to 130‹ F. at from atmospheric pressure to 250 p.s.i.g. The metal fluorides may be subsequently treated to desorb HF and regenerate the fluoride which may then be recycled.
|
