Benzothieno-pyridine derivs. - useful as blood platelet aggregation inhibitors and antiinflammatory agents

Benzo b thienopyridine derivs. of formula (I) or (II) are new: (where R' is H, 1-6C alkyl or aralkyl opt. substd. on the aryl gp. by one or more halo, OH, NO2, NH2, CN, -CO2H, -CONH2, alkoxycarbonyl, alkyl, alkoxy or CF3; R2 is H, halo, OH, alkyl or alkoxy). The cpds. are inhibitors of blood platelet aggregation, and antiinflammatory agents. A typical cpd., 4-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrobenzo b thieno 3,2-c pyridine was prepd. in 70% yield by heating (benzo b -thien-3-yl-methylamino)acetaldehyde diethylacetal hydrochloride in 6N HCl.
