Prosthesis for automatically closing eyelids - has row of miniature magnets encased in flexible lining and embedded along eyelids

The prosthesis is intended for a partially paralysed patient and is intended to permit automatic closing of the eyelids. It comprises a row of miniature magnets (7) which is embedded into the fleshy edge of the upper (2) and lower (3) eyelids. Each magnet in the row is spaced apart (p) from its neighbour and each row is encased in a flexible lining (5) of silicone material. The magnetic axis of each magnet is tangential to the eye (1) and the north and south poles on the operating sides cause the eyelids to close by magnetic attraction.
