Termination of optical fibre cable - using annular deformable member having passage to receive cable and subjected to compression

An optical fibre cable is terminated by compressing inwards the deformable member (1) to secure the cable in the passage. The compression operation is carried out by using a rim (7) which consists of a material having form-retaining and size-retaining properties. The rim surrounds the deformable member and endeavours to return to its original form and size. In so doing, it exerts a compressive force on the member which is deformed inwardly under this force.
