The endless belts of filter fabric each form part of a filtration unit in the filter press. Each unit also has a tray for receiving the filtrate, a frame for contg. the cake of material during pressing, and inlets for admitting the slurry or filter pulp to be pressed. The belt is supported on two rollers, and each component of each unit is mounted so as to slide vertically on a support frame, e.g. under the influence of a hydraulic ram. Pref. the belts are all driven together by a common drive system, one roller of each pair being selectively engaged by a drive belt or pulley which turns all these rollers, each having a pulley or sprocket wheel. The belt or chain can be pushed into contact with the pulleys or sprockets by a second set of pulleys or sprockets mounted on a movable connon support separate from the mounting the rollers. In a third drive system, gear wheels on the driven rollers are selectively engageable by movable gears driven together by a common chain drive. The appts. is usable in industrial solid/liq. sepns. Since all the belts move together in the same direction, discharge of the pressed cakes takes place on the same side of the appts. and at the same time. The appts. is thus easier to use and to maintain, avoiding the need to guide and control a single filter belt around all the filter units. The risk of loss of material is reduced, and since this lost material can be detrimental to the operation of the appts., breakdowns due to clogging etc. are also reduced. |
