A scarifier or grubber includes an automotive drive unit provided with a driver's location and drive motors. Extending from the drive unit is a raisable and lowerable arm (6) which carries a cutter assembly (1) on its free end. The cutter assembly (1) includes a rotatable, driven roller (2) whose drive unit is accommodated within the actual roller (2) itself. The drive unit includes hydraulic motors to which hydraulic fluid under pressure is delivered from the drive unit. Attached to the peripheral surface of the roller (2) are cutting teeth (3), which are disposed in a pattern of at least one helix or spiral which starts at one or at both axial ends of the roller (2). Only a small number of cutting teeth (3), preferably three, are located on a line which extends parallel with the rotational axis of the roller (2). |
