PURPOSE:To improve strength and toughness of sintered body by blending ceria stabilized zirconia fine powder with a specific amount of alkaline earth metal oxide. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. zirconia containing 8-30mol%, preferably 10-16mol % cerium oxide is blended with 0.05-2 pts.wt., preferably 0.08-1.5 pt.wt. alkaline earth metal oxide such as calcium oxide to give zirconia fine powder (particle diameter: usually 0.7-10mum, preferably about 1.0-2.0mum). The fine powder is molded and sintered at about 1,300-1,600 deg.C to give high-purity, high-toughness sintered body of tetragonal system as main crystal. |
