<p>PURPOSE:To increase an engine output performance by a suction dynamic effect, by connecting to a collection room, the stop end passage having a characteristic frequency about the same as that of columnar vibration formed by branch passages. CONSTITUTION:In as in-line three cylinder engine, a suction manifold 1 has branch passages 21-23 about the same length which communicate with respective cylinders and collection room 3 which collects the upper stream parts of the branch passages 21-23 in a bundle. The collection room 3 is connected to a stop end passage 7, which has a characteristic frequency about the same as of columnar vibration formed by the passages 21-23. This propagates negative pressure waves, produced at the lower stream end of the branch passages 21-23, to the branch passages 21-23 of the cylinders in the next suction order and superimposes the waves over other negative pressure waves produced at the time of opening the suction valves of the cylinders, which amplitudes the negative pressure to bring an inertia effect and enables the increase of supercharging action into the combustion chamber.</p> |
