摘要 PURPOSE:To provide the subject glass composed of GeO2, Ta2O5, Li2O, Na2O and K30 at specific weight ratios, having low transmission loss of CO2 laser light and high weather resistance and free from crystallization in drawing to form a wave guide. CONSTITUTION:The objective glass for optical wave guide has a composition composed of 30-95wt.% of GeO2, 2-50wt.% of Ta2O5, 0-10wt.% of Li20, 0-20wt.% of Na2O and 0-40wt.% of K2O provided that Li2O+Na2O+K2O is 2-40 wt.%. The glass can be produced by using corresponding oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, etc., of the metals as raw materials, weighing and mixing the materials at prescribed ratios, heating the mixture and slowly cooling the molten mixture. The glass can be used as a light-guide for carbon dioxide laser light by forming to a hollow fiber and the transmission loss of the light-guide at 10.6mum is <=1dB/m based on a hollow wave guide of 1mm diameter.
