Procedure has the following steps: once an image (23) including a character address is produced on a television screen (2), the image including the character address is memorized and from it the address is produced; the address is then stored in the television memory (24) and or used to control the television receiver (3). An Independent claim is made for a procedure for managing the address database and finding data records in memory (24) using a remote control (16) connected to the television. An address search in memory (24) is carried out in an iterative manner. Each iteration produces a list of addresses that can be selected with the number reducing with each iteration.
