The shackle has two limbs (3), which are mainly straight, and which can rotate about a common axis. The limbs also have fastening elements, which are arranged at the opposite ends from the axis, and which are parallel and point towards one another. Each limb has a recess (7) which extends from the edge towards roughly its centre. The two recesses point in opposite directions, so that when the limbs are closed together, the end of one fastening element engages in the recess in the other. Alternatively, each limb can have an unloading element which is fixed on the inside in the direction of loading of the fastening element, so that the free ends of the latter lie against one another when the limbs are closed together.
