PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore the optical scanning speed of a scanning means in a short time in the case of reading bar code information and to prevent large loads from being impressed to the scanning means at the time of restoration. SOLUTION: When the decoding of the bar code information becomes OK within prescribed time (step S5), a control circuit executes a read processing (step S6) and obtains product sales information. At the time, in the case that the bar code information can not be decoded within the prescribed time, a laser light source is put off (step S9) and the rotation speed of a motor for rotating a polygon mirror is lowered (step S10). Thus, the service life of the motor is extended. Then, when the presence of an article is detected (step S11), the laser light source is lighted (step S12) and the motor rotation speed is restored (step S13). |
