NEW PRODUCTION PROCESS FOR CYCLOHEXANE-DIMETHANOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new production process for cyclohexanedimethanol that does not use aromatic compounds as feedstocks, but uses raw material of low load on the environment and can produce the target compound under mild reaction conditions. SOLUTION: This production process for cyclohexanedimethanol from tetrahydrobenzaldehyde comprises the first step where tetrahydrobenzaldehyde is allowed to react with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a carbonylation catalyst to form cyclohexanedialdehyde and the second step where the resultant cyclohexane-dialdehyde is catalytically hydrogenated over a hydrogenation catalyst into the objective cyclohexanedimethanol.
