PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce ε-caprolactam in a high selectivity by controlling in a specific range the nitrogen content of a catalyst returned from a catalyst- regenerating process to a fluidized bed type Beckmann rearrangement reaction process and continuously performing the reaction operation and the catalyst- regeneration operation. SOLUTION: This method for producing ε-caprolactam comprises subjecting cyclohexanone oxime to a Beckmann rearrangement reaction in the presence of a solid catalyst (excluding a boron catalyst) in a gaseous phase. Therein, the catalyst is continuously or intermittently extracted from the fluidized bed type Beckmann rearrangement reaction process, introduced into a catalyst- regenerating process, regenerated with an oxygen-containing gas at an elevated temperature in the regeneration process, and then returned to the Beckmann rearrangement reaction process, while the content of nitrogen in the catalyst is controlled in a range of 10-2,500 ppm. The catalyst used in the reaction is zeolite, preferably pentasil type zeolite, especially MFI zeolite. The reaction is carried out at 250-500 deg.C at 0.01-0.5 MP, and it is preferable that the cyclohexanone oxime is reacted in the coexistence of a 1-6C alcohol. |
