PURPOSE: An intermittent recording device is provided to detect a moving amount of a monitored video signal, and to set up a recording mode on the basis of the moving amount, so as to reduce the consumption of a recording tape. And the device enables necessary recording to be secured, though the abrasion of a head and a tape cyclometer is reduced to the minimum. CONSTITUTION: A motion detection circuit(5) detects motion of a monitored video signal. A moving amount detection circuit(6) detects a moving amount of the motion detected by the motion detection circuit(5). A video signal recording unit(3) records the monitored video signal. A control circuit(4) controls the video signal recording unit(3) by the information of the moving amount detection circuit(6). The video signal recording unit(3) varies recording intervals for intermittent recording by the moving amount detection circuit(6).
