The switching device includes a rotary operating member (10) and at least two sensors (50,52) which are actuated when the operating member is rotated. The operating member is a toothed pulse wheel (10) into which at least two sprung tracer pins (20,22) mesh. The tracer pins actuate sensors (50,52) when the pulse wheel is rotated. The tracer pins may be displaced on the pulse wheel so that the sensors are actuated with a time delay, depending on the direction of the pulse wheel.
