PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which is easily assembled and can be made simple and compact on the whole. SOLUTION: While a motor is made small-sized, both the effects of accurate constant-speed control and accurate positioning can be obtained by making a balance coupled with a holding means have mass nearly equal to the total weight of the lightest plate type member to which a storage phosphor sheet is added among one or a plurality of kinds of storage phosphor sheets and of the holding means when the holding member holds the plate type member with the storage phosphor sheet added thereto or nearly equal to the total weight the lights stimulable phosphor sheet among one or a plurality of kinds of storage phosphor sheets and of the holding means when the holding means holds the stimulable phosphor sheet.
