PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic separator allowing effective magnetic separation, by imparting a high magnetic field gradient over all the wells, in the magnetic separator for generating a high-gradient magnetic field. SOLUTION: In this magnetic separator, wherein an inspection liquid is sampled in the each well 4 of a microwell plate, and wherein a magnet 1a is arranged in a side way of the each well 4 to impress the magnetic field to the inspection liquid, in order to separate magnetic particles in the inspection liquid, four or more of magnetic poles are provided in the outer circumferential side face of the magnet 1a.
