PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element in which switching time of a screen is shortened and which has high display contrast by using a simple construction of components. SOLUTION: The display element has an electrochemical transistor composed of an electrochemical active element containing an organic compound as a driving circuit, and contains an electrodeposition display element between opposing electrodes. In the display element, the electrodeposition display element has an electrolyte layer containing silver or a compound containing silver in its chemical structure, and conducts a driving operation of the opposing electrodes so as to generate dissolution and deposition of silver.
