PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of adequately and effectively cleaning a charger according to the any current situation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a cleaning member which cleans the long-sized charger, a movement driving motor 15 for moving the cleaning member along the length of the charger, and a control section 11 which calculates a cleaning permissible time for which the charger is permitted to be cleaned, sets a moving speed of the cleaning member by the movement driving motor 15 and a frequency of cleaning of the charger by the cleaning member according to the cleaning permissible time, and controls cleaning processing for the charger according to the settings.
