PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift lever device which does not require an energy absorbing member and can be miniaturized. SOLUTION: When a shift lever 12 is subjected to a large impact force directed downwardly in the axial direction in a shift lever device, the shift lever 12 is unlocked from a first knurling unit 14, and separated from a lever base member 16. Next, a second knurling unit 28 is moved while expanding the inside of the lever base member 16, the impact energy for the part not converted by the first knurling unit 14 is converted into the deformation energy of the lever base member 16, the lever base member 16 is deformed, and the impact energy given to the shift lever 12 is absorbed thereby. Thus, any energy absorbing member such as a rib to absorb the impact does not need to be provided on an outer part of the lever base member 16, and the shift lever device 10 can be miniaturized.
