PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exhibit the capacity of a dot line printer to the maximum without increasing the cost of the apparatus. SOLUTION: In the dot line printer performing printing by reciprocating a hammer bank, having a plurality of print hammers arranged along the print line while spaced apart at a predetermined pitch, along the print line by means of a shuttle mechanism and driving the print hammers during reciprocation process, the number of rules in print data for one shuttle is counted and when the number of rules exceeds a specified value, the print data for one shuttle is printed while being divided into a plurality of times.
