PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated cutting tool excellent in abrasion resistance, chipping resistance and breaking resistance hardly causing a tool knife edge position to recede due to abrasion and chipping, and also to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The coated cutting tool is constituted of a base material, and films with which its surface are coated, at least one of the films is a columnar crystal TiCN film, an average grain diameter of the columnar crystal TiCN film when it is measured in a direction in parallel with the surface of the base material is 0.05 to 0.5μm, and an X-ray diffraction peak position 2θof a (422) surface of the columnar crystal TiCN film when a CuKα-ray is used, is within an area of 121.5 to 122.6°.
