PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of switching a reading mode during reading a document. SOLUTION: Before starting double-sided reading of the document, a page display control section and a mode display control section cause a display section to display an operation screen for accepting a page range and a selection of either a double-sided reverse-reading mode or a double-sided simultaneous reading mode in response to the page range. A user chooses the page range and a reading mode for reading the page range. The image reading apparatus reads the document in accordance with the reading mode selected per page.
