PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a phenomenon wherein a control valve type lead-acid storage battery regenerates sulfation arising in a negative electrode plate by using a special charging method, but a recovery effect of the negative electrode plate subjected to sulfation is insufficient, and a counter electrode for regenerative charging of the negative electrode plate becomes a positive electrode plate, which causes overcharging of the positive electrode plate and resulting corrosion of a grid of a positive electrode, resulting in deterioration of the lead-acid storage battery. SOLUTION: An auxiliary electrode 7 is provided opposite a negative electrode plate 3 of an end plate of an electrode plate group in a cell chamber 1 of a control valve type lead-acid storage battery, and an auxiliary terminal 8 is provided which is electrically connected with the auxiliary electrode and is mounted in the outside of the lead-acid storage battery. In the event of sulfation, a negative electrode terminal 10 is charged using the auxiliary electrode as a counter electrode, which enables effective charging of the negative electrode plate without affecting a positive electrode plate in the electrode plate group, thereby solving sulfation of the negative electrode.
