PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method for producing a glass panel unit that makes it possible to form a spacer efficiently while reducing energy consumption.SOLUTION: In order to produce a glass panel comprising spacers 3 between a first glass substrate 1 and a second glass substrate 2, a glass frit layer 6 is formed to be laid on the first glass substrate 1, and at least part of the glass frit layer 6 is topically heated.
