A valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine comprises: a rear plate 13 for closing the opening at one axial end of a housing body; a lock pin 30 provided in a slide hole so as to be movable forward and backward, the slide hole being formed in a first vane of a vane member; and an annular, lock hole-constituting section 31 press-fitted and affixed to a holding hole 13c provided in the inner end surface of the rear plate, the lock hole-constituting section 31 constituting, within the holding hole 13c, a lock hole 32. A protrusion 35 having a flat front end surface 35a is formed on one circumferential end side of the inner peripheral surface of the lock hole-constituting section, and recesses 37, 37 continuous with the inner peripheral surface of the lock hole are formed on both sides of the protrusion in the circumferential direction of the lock hole. This configuration ensures the smooth engagement of the lock pin into the lock hole and enables the smooth supply and discharge operation of hydraulic pressure supplied to and discharged from the lock hole. |
