FIELD: chemical and petrochemical industries. SUBSTANCE: invention comprises catalyst system for oligomerization of ethylene into linear alpha-olefins (LAO) comprising zirconium carboxylate ((RCOO)<SB>m</SB>ZrCl<SB>4-m</SB>,), mixture of (C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>)<SB>n</SB>AlCl<SB>3-n</SB> with alkylalumoxane chloride of general formula: <EMI ID=0.271 HE=12 WI=57 TI=CHI> and Levis base is stable nitroxyl radical (2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidine-1-oxyl or ditertbutyl nitroxyl, Zr:Al:N atomic ratio being 1:(10-1000):(0.01-1.0) wherein m,n and y are integers or fractional numerals selected from range of values of 1<=m<=1, 1<=n<=2, 0<= x<= 10, 0<y<10, and R is unsaturated (vinyl, 2-propenyl, acetylenyl, cyclopentadienyl) or aromatic (phenyl, tolyl, naphthyl, indenyl or fluorhenyl) hydrocarbon radical in which multiple bond or aromatic fragment is conjugated with COO group. Inclusion of said zirconium carboxylates, alkylalumoxane chloride and stable nitroxyl radical into catalyst system make it possible to increase its efficiency and selectivity and polymer formation is completely avoided during oligomerization of ethylene into LAO.
