Provided are a machine tool spindle cooling method and a machine tool such that thermal deformation of the spindle can be minimized while energy savings is achieved. The machine tool spindle cooling method involves supplying and circulating a cooling oil cooled by a spindle cooling device (18) into a housing (11) that rotatably supports a spindle (12) so as to cool a bearing (13) and a spindle rotating motor (14) that generate heat as the spindle (12) rotates. When the rotation speed of the spindle (12) has become equal to or lower than a predetermined rotation speed and the temperatures of the bearing (13) and the spindle rotating motor (14) detected by temperature sensors (15, 16) have become equal to or lower than a predetermined temperature, driving of the spindle cooling device (18) is stopped so as not to supply the cooling oil. |
