A foamed article, e.g. a doll's body, is produced from a plastic composition which is gellable, curable and foamable when heated, by initially distributing the composition over the surface of a closed mould cavity and gelling it thereon, curing and foaming the composition, whilst venting the cavity, by submerging the mould in an appropriately heated liquid medium. The latter may be glycerine to enable the operator to terminate the process when the mould vents are seen to be filled with extruding mould material. The composition may be placed in a plurality of moulds located in an oven and rotated about two axes at right-angles whereby the composition is spread over the mould cavities and gelled; the moulds are then removed from the oven and submerged in a bath of heated liquid. Alternatively the distribution and gelling of the composition within the cavities may also be effected with the moulds submerged in the heated liquid bath. |
