1,081,568. Laminates. MOBAY CHEMICAL CO. Sept. 15, 1965 [Sept. 15, 1964], No. 39431/65. Heading B5N. A method of heat sealing a polyurethane foam to a self-sustaining thermoplastic synthetic resin film to form a laminate comprises interposing between the foam and the film a plastisol containing a resin compatible with the film and heating the resultant assembly until the resin in the plastisol is fused and has merged with the thermoplastic synthetic resin film and the foam, while avoiding substantial distortion of the film, to effect sealing of the film to the foam. Specified films are polyvinyl chloride, polyamides, polypropylene, polyvinyl alcohol, polycarbonate, polyvinyl acetate, copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate and polyurethanes. Specified plastisols are based on polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polymethyl methacrylate, polymethyl acrylate, but a diene-acrylonitrile copolymers and polyvinyl acetals. The polyurethane foam may have closed or open cells and may have a profiled surface. An open fabric layer or scrim may be interposed between the foam and the film. A plurality of perforations may be punched through the laminate. |
