A remote control unit for operating a device having two operation modes comprises a source of light which may include ultraviolet and/or infrared wavelengths, means to repetitively modulate the energy from the source and a timer to produce modulated beams of selectable duration for effecting the initiation of the respective operation modes. The unit may be used to initiate forward or reverse actuation of transparency changing means of a magazine type projector. The repetitive modulation which renders the arrangement immune to ambient light may be obtained by rotating an annular grating or by vibrating in its plane a planar grating. The former may be driven by a helical spring attached to a gear-wheel and a throwable lever, and the latter by a vibrating blade. The light source may be switched by cam actuated contacts to produce the desired durations, or a shutter may be used to cut off the beam. Visible light may be removed from the beam by a filter in order not to disturb viewers. |
