A universal joint consists of a sleeve 2 rigidly secured to the driving shaft 8 and formed with radial recesses 4 lined with cushioning material 19 such as rubber, the recesses being engaged by rollers 18 at the ends of the arms 17 of a spider secured to the driven shaft 13. The members are centred by a ball-and-socket joint 12 provided with a stub shaft 11 slidable in a longitudinal bore in shaft 8 to permit relative axial movement of shafts 8, 13. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ball joint is movable along an axial stub shaft (22) integral with sleeve 2. |
