1278593 Buckles C R DARTOIS 9 June 1969 [12 June 1968] 27889/68 Heading E2A An assembly of adjustable buckles comprises a releasable main buckle including two main buckle parts one of which carries a fastening element arranged and adapted to be interengageable with and readily releasable from a further fastening element carried by the other main buckle part, and a respective secondary buckle 6 pivotable about a respective member 4 pivoted one on each said main buckle part, each said secondary buckle being pivotable about a first axis perpendicular to a plane generally coincident with the said secondary buckle and each said member being pivotable about a second axis parallel to a plane generally coincident with the said associated main buckle part and extending generally in the direction of the tension to which the main buckle will, in use, be subjected. Only one main buckle part 2 is shown in Figure 4 with part of one secondary buckle 6, each main buckle part and each secondary buckle part consists of a frame of generally rectangular shape which has grooves 13 in two opposite sides for receiving a slidable member 14 Fig. 2a which is also generally rectangular in shape. The grooves do not extend the full length of each frame and the length of each is such that when the member 14 is fully inserted a slot 16 in the member 14 overlies an aperture defined by the frame so that a strap can be passed behind an abutment 12 of the frame through the slot 16 around a portion 17 of the member 14 and past the abutment 12 parallel to itself; when tension is applied to the strap the member 14 will slide so that the portion 17 moves towards the abutment 12 and the strap is trapped between them; to release the strap pressure is applied to the edge 18 of the member 14. The two part main buckle is constructed substantially as disclosed in Specification number 1085793 with however the addition of a permanent magnet which holds the two fastening elements in engagement the help to prevent inadvertant release of the two buckle parts from each other; alternatively one of the fastening elements can be magnetized. |
