<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs of a mold by miniaturizing a start mirror. <P>SOLUTION: This optical pickup is constructed in such a manner that an actuator having an objective lens, a laser light source LD, a photodetector PD, a start mirror M are arranged in a synthetic resin slide base reciprocated in the radial direction of a disk, the actuator is driven to move the objective lens in focus and tracking directions, a light (a) projected from the laser light source LD is reflected on the start mirror M, and passed through the objective lens to be projected on the disk, its reflected light b is passed through the objective lens, and reflected on the start mirror M to be received by the photodetector PD, and information recorded in the disk is read.
