Dielectric material comprises brominated poly-(2,6-dimethyl-p-phenylene ether). Side chain bromination is effected by adding bromine to a refluxing solution of poly(2,6-dimethyl-p-phenylene ether) in s-tetrachloroethane and precipitating the brominated product with methanol. Nuclear bromination is effected by adding bromine to an ice-cold solution of poly-(2,6-dimethyl-p-phenylene ether) in carbon tetrachloride containing a trace of pyrridine, allowing the temperature to rise to room temperature then heating at 60-70 DEG C. |
