Textile materials are dyed by impregnating the material with a dyestuff composition followed by immersing the impregnated material in a bath of liquid halogenated hydrocarbon at a temperature conducive to the fixation of the dye on the material. Preferably the textile material is hydrophilic, e.g. viscose rayon and nylon and any method of application of the dye may be used. The dyes may be applied from emulsion thickened compositions, e.g. oil-in-water or water-in-oil emulsions. Reactive acid and direct dyes are preferably applied and halogenated hydrocarbons specified are trichloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, perchloroethylene and mixtures thereof. In Examples a bath of boiling perchloroethylene is used to fix a reactive dye in viscose rayon and acid dyes on nylon 66. |
