Anthraquinone dyes for synthetic resins and cellulose

Anthraquinone dyes characterised by being free of COOH and SO3H groups, and by having a substituent (I) at one or more alpha-positions of a monoanthraquinone nucleus. Prepared by prepared by acylating the aminoanthraquinones (II) with an acylating agent of formula (III). The dyes may also be prepared by condensing an alpha-haloanthraquinone with an amide corresponding to the chloride (III). The anthraquinone dyes (I) are soluble in organic solvents, particularly alcohol and acetone, and are useful for pigmenting synthetic resins, and for mass dyeing of synthetic fibres, particularly cellulose acetate fibres, in clear fast shades.
