Thiohydantoins are used as additives to fattening feeds for animals, esp. cattle. They act as metabolic regulators and increase the conversion ratio of nutrients, so that meat production is increased. Apart from conventional thiohydantoins obtained by reaction of alpha-amino acids with NH4SCN in acetic anhydride, there can also be used thiohydantoin-like cpds. obtained by reacting protein materials (e.g. casein) with organic or inorganic (iso)thiocyanates. The thiohydantions can be used in combination with other feed additives. Partic. favourable is a combination of a hypoglycaemic agent, a thyroid inhibitor and/or a pituitary inhibitor, a thiohydantoin and a thiobarbiturate. |
