PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline secondary battery having a negative electrode whose surface oxidation is suppressed or prevented and which has a structure in which a paste containing a segregation-free rare earth-nickel type hydrogen storage alloy is packed in a conductive base. SOLUTION: This alkaline secondary battery includes a positive electrode 2; a pasted negative electrode 4 formed by packing a conductive base with a paste containing a rare earth-nickel type hydrogen storage alloy, a conducting material, and a neutral binder; a separator 3 interposed between the positive 2 and negative 4 electrodes; and an alkaline electrolyte. The paste has a pH of 9 to 12. |
