Oyster strain (Pleurotus ostreatus) culture is disclosed. Stiffened straw bundle treated with nutrient soln. and solid nutrient media is interlaced with pure mycelium culture, and mixture stored in a 1-1.5 cm. dia. inoculum canal concentrically developed in an inoculum-substrate. - Finely divided plant waste of suitable moisture content or fine- or coarse sawdust opt. contg. 10-15 wt.% bentonite and nutrients is used and inoculum substrate interlaced with mycelium. - Wood, which can contain clumps, peat or stumps, is stored in a ditch covered with light-permeable, heat-insulating material, and treated with ready inoculum in open or hot-house. - Fungus seeds are grown under conditions such that light-energy is supplied by sunlight, heat by natural fertilisers embedded in substrate or artificial heat-supply and by retention of heat energy during development, and moisture by direct capillary contact with soil, or by steaming or watering.
