A ball joint for motor vehicles, particularly for suspending and pivoting vehicle wheels, wherein a ball pin 2 is mounted in a bearing bush 4 for movement in all directions in a joint casing 1 and the opposite end of the joint casing to that where the aperture 6 for the passage of the hall pin is provided is closed by a cover 7 supported on the adjacent edge of the bearing brush and automatic re-adjustment of the joint is effected by a spring element 8, is characterised in that the bearing bush consists of a material having good sliding and wear-resisting properties, e.g. metal or a hard plastics material, and in that the spring element is curved and is formed by the bearing bush it self or by a spring element joined to the bush and hearing against the ball head 3 of said ball pin, while, in the unstressed condition the curvature of the surface of the spring element face adapted to contact the ball head is sharper than the curvature of the 'ball head. As shown in Fig. 1, the spring element may be constructed as an annular curved disc extending towards the ball head and integral with the wall of the bearing bush and it may be provided with open radial slots, the resulting tongue-shaped segments 10 applying the necessary spring force. The curved ibearing bush may also be provided with open slots at its end opposite to that where the closure cover is situated, the bush tongues thus formed, in the unstressed condition. having a curvature which is sharper than. the curvature of the ball head. |
