Polymers are derived wholly or partly from monomer units of formula: (where R is H or methyl, and R1 is a cycloaliphatic lactam group. A cpd. of formula: is a suitable monomer. (Co)polymerisation is in presence of radical initiators. Suitable comonomers include ethylene, butadiene, styrenes, (meth)acrylates, (meth)acrylamides, vinyl esters and vinyl ethers.
