<p>A reliable gastight, yet easily detachable joint between pipes carrying liquid sodium in nuclear power plants can be produced by screwing the two pipe ends over the threads at the end of a nipple, as mechanical function. The sealing function is taken over by a piece of corrugated tube which is externally welded or soldered gastight to pairs of ribs on the o.d. of the pipe ends. To break the connection, the corrugated tube is destroyed and also its attachment to the ribs and another pair of ribs is used to attach a new corrugated tube.</p> |
