1349287 Skelping tubes; making cables INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 8 Sept 1971 [12 Sept 1970] 41874/71 Headings B3E and B3A An apparatus for skelping a transversely corrugated strip 1 around an elongate member 2, e.g. an electric cable, comprises a first plurality 3 of skelping devices 7, 8 spaced from a second plurality 4 of skelping devices 13, 14 by a distance greater than the spacing between adjacent devices to enable the member 2 to be drawn into coincidence with the strip 1 and a guide 19 for maintaining the width of the curved strip 1 issuing from the first skelping devices 7, 8. The strip 1 passing between skelping rollers 3 and 4 is guided by freely rotatable rollers 26, 27 mounted between vertical walls 20, 21 of the guide 19 and by freely rotatable rollers 22, 23, 24 mounted on each of the walls 20, 21. The guide walls 20, 21 are spaced apart by a distance equal to the width of the strip 1 issuing from the skelping rollers 3. The strip 1 is drawn through freely rotatable skelping rollers 9-12, which curve it to a radius not less than twice the radius of the skelped tube 6. The curved strip 1 is skelped around the cable 2 by freely rotatable rollers 15-18 and a die 5 having a conical aperture. |
